Last week my Son received his very first Pizza Hut® Book It!® Reading Program Certificate (for his 2013-2014 school year) to celebrate another reading accomplishment. Tonight he placed an order of his favorite Pan Cheese Pizza and received a sticker, making it the second sticker in the new redesigned Passport.
Book It!® now offers a free online Minute Tracker which means that as soon as a child meets the monthly reading goal, the teacher gives him or her a Reading Award Certificate. Click here to sign up and get started.
It’s been a very good day and we are all content. The weather forecast for tomorrow predicts rain early in the afternoon, which means that I have to make sure my Son is dressed warm for school in the morning.
Summer Vacation is officially over for the students at Cottonwood Elementary as they returned to school early this morning for another year of learning and brain challenging activities. My Son has been looking forward to this day and he was so happy to reconnect with some of his friends from Kindergarten.
The school was packed and there was a very long line of parents who personally wanted to take their kids in the premises and meet their teachers. After giving specific instructions to my Son (his Teacher’s name, his classroom number and where to go for help), he proceeded through the gate while I went through the office. After signing in as a Visitor to personally turn in the items on his supply list, I found him sitting in his classroom and coloring at his desk. The students are being seated alphabetically by last names. He was very happy to find out that two of his best friends from Kindergarten are in his class too.
While going through his folders last night, I found his Passport to Reading (filled with six stickers) along with an unused Pizza Hut® Book It!® Reading Program Certificate. These two items put a smile on my face. After picking him up from school, we drove by Pizza Hut® and he placed an order of his favorite Pan Cheese Pizza and received a sticker. What a great way to celebrate back to school.
I wish him as well as others a great 2013-2014 school year. I hope he has a wonderful time and acquires more knowledge while making a difference the best way he knows how.
Tonight we worked on a Family Decorating Project. As with the other projects, we were asked to decorate a Shamrock which will be displayed for viewing on St. Patrick’s Day. This time too, we kept it simple while making it unique and interesting. For this project, we decorated this Shamrock by drawing a maze pattern within the leaf clovers and adding the kids favorite things: Robot, Car and Cupcake with a cannon behind it.
My Kindergartener received another Pizza Hut® Book It!® Reading Program Certificate. He has been wanting to eat some Pizza and now he’ll be having one for free (not free since he worked really hard for it).
Today is such a bright and beautiful day; too bad we have to stay indoors due to the high gusty winds. I was really looking forward to gardening and tending to my plants. All the tasks have been completed. We will be watching fun movies for the next couple of hours (while having some healthy and nutritious snacks) and then we will do some reading and other challenging activities before calling it a night.
Today we worked on our third Family project for my Son’s assignment and it was a fun Family affair.
I gathered all the tools and materials necessary to complete the project (scissors, scrapbook papers, hole puncher, crayons, paper bits and Elmer’s glue) while my little guy was busy writing the last entry of the week activities in his school journal. He wanted the Snowman to have matching beanie hat, scarf, gloves and boots. I opened my hole puncher collection area and collected the bits from the punched papers, which we used for the Snowman’s eyes, mouth and buttons for his rather large coat. We tried to keep it clean and simple as possible.
Today he received his fourth Pizza Hut® Book It!® Reading Program Certificate to celebrate another reading accomplishment. He is moving on to list nine of his sight words (though he can pretty much read anything). I ordered a bunch of books for them a few days ago. I can’t be more proud of my little boy! ♥
So, this morning was Award Day at Cottonwood Elementary for the Kindergarteners and 1st Graders. Some of the Awards being given were in the following category: Leadership, Math, Reading, Good Citizen, Effort/Improvement and Attendance. My wonderful Ivan received an Award for Reading and advancement of his sight words. According to his Teacher, he is on the First/Second Grade list.
Yesterday he received his second Pizza Hut® Book It!® Reading Program Certificate to celebrate another reading accomplishment. We are very proud of our little boy and he is very proud of himself too.
Right now he is interested in Science and we are giving him all the help we can in this field as well as in Math.
