Scorching Weather & Beautiful Blooms

JM Perez By JM Perez2 min read438 views

It’s a beautiful day out here in the High Desert.
I have not done much in the garden lately due to the scorching weather, but I go out early in the morning to make sure that all the potted plants are getting enough water. I am grateful they are still thriving.

I first discovered Allium Drumstick many years ago, when I was shopping for bulbs and couldn’t find the variety I liked. The came back year after year and I enjoyed them, until a couple of days ago, when I found the long stems on the ground. It turned out that a gopher ate the roots/bulbs.
I cut a few of the stems and placed them in a vintage vase.

Training, pruning and maintaining the Amethyst Falls Wisteria have been very rewarding. Our pergola is now partially covered in gorgeous lavender-purple flowers.

There are many plants currently blooming around the gardens:

Rose Mallow (Lavatera Trimestris Loveliness).

The Tulbaghia Violacea ‘Silver Lace’ (Variegated Society Garlic) below is one of my oldest plants, and it’s still thriving after fourteen years.

Lavender bushes are getting bigger.

Some succulents are blooming, such as the Pine Cone Cactus Flower, Corsican Stonecrop flower, and Sedum Morganianum (Donkey’s Tail).

Many rose bushes and trees are in bloom:

Hybrid Tea Rose ‘Love & Peace’.

After a year, the Nicotiana Glauca seedling has grown quite a bit.

Nicotiana Glauca (Tree Tobacco).

The steamy temperatures and high humidity have been harsh, especially for wildlife. I found a dead hummingbird as well as a few dead lizards. Ground squirrels and gophers have been active in the garden, damaging plants, sprinkler systems, and irrigation pipes.

I find so much joy in my garden. Spending time alone with Nature has always been healing and awakening.

Happy Gardening!

Great Vintage Finds

Hello everyone, I hope you’re having a great start to your week. I have been very busy these days and very blessed too. Today I would like to show you a few gorgeous vintage pieces I recently added to my collection.

  • A Josef Originals Bride musical figurine. She slowly spins around while playing “Bridal March.”
Josef Originals Musical Figurine, Bride.
  • A 1960’s Flapper Dress/Drop Waist Gatsby Dress with matching cream Lace Blouse by Miss Ashlee of California. As I was scanning through a row of clothes crammed together, I could sense a promising outfit. The dress was still wrapped in plastic and appeared to had never been worn. As I lifted the lace blouse, my heart leaped with joy at the sight of the drop waist Gatsby Dress underneath, as I was dazzled by its beauty.
Since the dress was missing the maker tag, I went on the Federal Trade and Commission website and punched in the RN number on the care label to get information on the designer, which turned out to be Miss Ashlee.

Downtown Oro Grande, CA

Today we drove to the Historic Downtown of Oro Grande, CA (our favorite spot in the High Desert). It is the one place on our California Historic Route 66 where some of us Antique and Vintage Collectors can find with a little luck, cherished treasures from the past.

On our way to Linda Marie’s Enchanted Treasures, we spotted what looked like a huge warehouse with lots of beautiful metal pieces outside. We stopped, looked around and loved it.

Vintage Little Girl Statue

JM Perez By JM Perez1 min read860 views

We took a trip down the Hill this morning to Downtown Pomona after dropping off my Mom to the Airport. We stopped at a Restaurant for breakfast since it was still early for the Shops to open doors.

Our first stop (and first time visit) was at St. John Antiques & Collectibles which is right across Subway® Restaurant.
We were greeted by a friendly and very knowledgeable couple, the owners. As each one of us looked around in search for something old, my eyes locked on a little girl statue. She reminded me of a set I already own and I knew I had to get her home. Weighing around 30 pounds, I realized that my other acquisitions are just a cheap imitation of the one I had in my hands. Cheap imitation, yes, but beautiful nonetheless. Possibly a Vintage 1970’s or 1980’s statue.

The bottom of the statue has a sticker which reads: NanCee’s Originals (La Verne, California).

Without a doubt this statue of a Little Girl and her Cat will make a great addition either in the Patio or the Garden.

Rose in a Vintage Cruet

JM Perez By JM Perez1 min read697 views

I spent a good part of my morning in the garden snipping off dead flowers from my Roses. It appears that Spring and Fall are the ideal seasons for my Roses to thrive and produce gorgeous flowers. All of my Rose bushes have a distinct, strong fruity fragrance and I enjoy living the moment. They make beautiful cut flowers too.

I cut a few fresh flowers which I placed in my Vintage Cruet (Chicago Peace® Hybrid Tea, Scarlet Knight, Queen Elizabeth and Iceberg Floribunda). Doesn’t it make a beautiful centerpiece and display?

I am still learning about pressing and drying flowers for keepsake. Click here to learn how to make dry flower arrangements.

Linking up to Beverly’s Pink Saturday.
