A Few Vintage Finds

JM Perez By JM Perez2 min read846 views

As a promise to our Son, we drove to Downtown Pomona this afternoon to check out the shops.
We went early to give ourselves plenty of time to go around each individual aisle. We started at the Olde Towne Pomona Antique Mall, where I ended up buying a vintage 1978 Carol Rardon figurine (made of plaster).

We then proceeded to the Pomona Antique Mart, where I picked up a huge and stunning Copper Wall Shelf Sconce before heading to Cheryl’s Antiques.

At Cheryl’s Antiques I bought a vintage 1950’s Roldan Doll (dressed as a Flamenco dancer). She originates from and was produced in Barcelona, Spain from the 1950’s to early 1970’s as touristy souvenirs and she is available in fun variety of designs. She has a gorgeous ruffle dress, a beautiful and remarkable facial features and holds felt castanets in her hands with a few pom poms hanging down. She’s gorgeous and my daughter thinks so too.

I also bought an Italian Wall Plaque of the blessed Mary and Baby Jesus (possibly a Fontanini). It’s weird because I touched this piece last December while we were piking up a few items at Cheryl’s and placed it right back where I found it, as I got distracted by my daughter. It was at home that I realized that I didn’t purchase it. I was amazed to find it today, on the exact spot where I left it almost two months ago and I immediately grabbed it.
It’s such a beautiful vintage piece of Madonna and her beloved Child.

Cheryl carries a few Boudoir Dolls in very good condition with their original clothing and accessories. If you are interested in purchasing these dolls or know someone who will, please contact Cheryl for pricing information.

Prior to returning home, we made a last stop at Ikea to purchase some Chocolate, which is available in Dark, Milk, and Hazelnut and are 99¢ each or 3 for $2.49. Ikea® Food Chocolate bars are pretty much my next favorites after Godiva® and Ghirardelli®. We all enjoy them here at home as well as sharing them with Family and Friends.

Antique Wood Carved Horse

JM Perez By JM Perez1 min read862 views

Today has turned out to be a much beautiful day than I anticipated. I spent a few hours this morning tending to my plants. The weather has been so beautiful and I’ve been enjoying working in the garden. I took a moment to walk around the house and noticed that the weeds in the backyard are starting to grow rather rapidly. The amount of rain that fell these past couple of months was enough to keep the cycle going; the soil is still the same and no matter what I do, they keep on coming. I smiled. Weeding has been therapeutically beneficial for me.

On a much more positive note, my Antique Wood Carved Horse Figurine (with Brass Copper embellishments) finally arrived in the mail this afternoon. Old and gorgeous! It is made of carved wood, hammered brass, copper and bone inlays. This piece was hand carved from a block of wood and the brass chain bridle can connect to the saddle. The age of the horse is probably mid to late 1950’s.

I just added a rare piece to my Antique Horses collection.

Redlands Galleria

Today, after little deliberation we decided to start exploring the east side of the 15 freeway and all that it offers. A simple search gave us a list of Antique Shops and considering the drive, it seemed very reasonable of an adventure into the unknown. Located in the Historic Downtown of Redlands, this Shop is a beauty of its own. With four levels of shopping (each one of which is filled with gorgeous items), Redlands Galleria focuses on Antiques, Collectibles and  fine Gifts.

Redlands Galleria (Redlands, CA).

We were told last year, by a couple of local vendors that Redlands, CA is the place to go for great Antiques and Vintage finds (Pomona, CA and Crestline, CA, Included). We didn’t have something special plan for today and after waking up to a lovely and warm day, we realized it was the perfect opportunity to go our there and explore. Our course was set for the city of Redlands. We had a wonderful drive to and fro and what a sight of our beautiful San Bernardino Mountains. Road trips are truly the best (for us, at least).

We took our time checking each level of the shop. Truth is, we wanted to buy everything. So many beautiful things! In the end, I spotted a Vintage Carousel Horse with Vintage Crystal Cut Glass Column and Holder, just stunning (Ceramic horse, Wood base, Metal rod, Crystal Cut Glass and a nickel plated brass Canopy). The sculpture is mounted on an oblong wood base. I am grateful for a good find and a good day.

If you are looking for Antiques, Vintage and other Collectibles items, you should definitely visit this shop. It’s huge, it’s inviting, it’s structured and the items are reasonably priced.

ELLE Bird Decor

JM Perez By JM Perez2 min read663 views

I spent most of the day sleeping and daydreaming. Good thing my kids had their Dad home today to attend to their needs while I was getting some much needed rest. I woke up just in time to get ready and go treasure hunting with the family. We made a quick stop at Toys “R” Us to find a part for, and to get an opinion on a gift we ordered for our daughter’s upcoming birthday. We also picked up something she really wants.

We then headed to Kohl’s early this evening looking at lovelies where we spent 30 minutes. I am so fond of Elle Decor and I picked up a beautiful decorative bird which was on clearance and the price was just right. Truth is, I have been waiting for this Bird to go on sale and it turned out that today was my lucky day as it was the last one in the store. Prior to exiting the store, I stock pile on Yankee Candle® simply home™ Bamboo Electric Home Fragrancer refills (Personally, I think the Bamboo fragrance is the best. It’s refreshing, relaxing, inviting and it soothes the senses as every breath you take is enjoyable).

As you can imagine, I was all smiles. Such a beautiful find.

Diner was light tonight and I decided to skip my glass of wine for tomorrow. My bundles of joy are sound asleep, which means my husband and I can finally watch all the movies we’ve been wanting to watch. If the weather permits, I will be gardening tomorrow morning or we will be adventurous enough to visit a new Antique Shop.

DIY: Stocking Hooks

EPEngineer By EPEngineer2 min read1K views

Yesterday we decorated the Fireplace Mantel, which is still a work in progress.
We set up and displayed the Nativity Scene, the Angels and Carolers, the Church and Village collection as well as other little displays. I had the Stockings lined up and when I was about to hang them up I couldn’t figure out where I left the hooks. Not knowing which box to look into and unwilling to search, I decided to create temporary hooks using old Wire Coat Hangers I had around (the ones you get from your Dry Cleaner).

Stocking Hook/Hanger.

Materials Needed:

  • Wire Coat Hanger or Sculpture Wire
  • Wire Cutters
  • Pliers (to bend wire)

Step by step:

  • First get the hanger and cut it close to the twist area. Once cut, you can bend the end onto a loop.  I found that bending the end into a loop helps to eliminate the sharp edges.
  • Starting from the looped end measure about an inch and a half to two inches and bend onto a 90 degree angle. This will allow the hanger to latch onto the back of the surface it will lay at.
  • Straighten the hanger as you go along to to the desired length and make sure that you leave an extra two inches to loop back at the end.
  • Now you can shape the end that will hold the stocking according to the surface it will lay on top of. On our case the edge is rounded off, so I rounded the edge.
  • Now, fold back the extra two inches of the hanger and bend together facing up. Bend the rest of the hanger end the same shape and make sure that the end of the hanger is as close to the hanger as possible. Now you are done, Enjoy!

We hope your week is filled with peace and joy.
